After months of deliberation, Richmond Free Library has decided to discontinue our Hoopla service. As we relayed in June, the service has become far more expensive over time and despite our efforts to control costs through borrowing limits, Hoopla is no longer sustainable.
We’d like to thank the Friends of Richmond Free Library for helping us provide this service for the past two years.
Moving forward, we will be investing in a collection of titles available in the Libby app especially for RFL patrons. This supplement to the Green Mountain Library Consortium’s collection will greatly reduce wait times and increase the variety of titles available in eBook and eAudiobook formats through that service.
You are also encouraged to download the Palace app, another source of eBooks and eAudiobooks provided by the Vermont Department of Libraries.
Make the Most of Your Digital Reading Options:
- Learn about Libby and Palace.
- Use all 10 of your hold slots in Libby, even if the wait list for a title is very long. We use this information to guide our purchase decisions. If enough patrons are waiting for a title, we may purchase our own copy.
- Use the Notify Me feature in Libby to flag titles not owned by the consortium or RFL that you would like to read. This information also helps us make decisions. If you need help with the Notify Me feature, please click here, give us a call or stop in.
- Stay tuned for a "How to Use Libby" session coming up!
- Download the Palace app and check if the books you want are available there.
This change will be effective as of November 27, 2024. You will receive another three borrow credits on November 1, which will hopefully allow you to access some of those books you've had on your favorites list for a while! No matter when you borrow, the title(s) you select will be available for the full three-week lending period.
Thanks again to the Friends for their ongoing support of the Library and our digital offerings.
