Whether you are new to composting or a seasoned pro, join us on Wednesday, October 16 at 6pm for a presentation from Vermont Master Composters Daniel Steinbauer and Gabriella Stevens. There are many different approaches and methods for turning organic matter into nutrient-rich compost, so how do you choose which will work best for you? Daniel and Gabriella will share their strategies for year-round composting, managing common odor and pest issues and answer your questions.

Some of the topics they will cover include:

  • Hot vs. Cold Composting in Winter: Should you let your compost pile freeze? How do you bring your compost indoors without introducing unpleasant odors?
  • How to build an active pile year-round and especially through the colder months, including developing your own "recipe" and selecting a location and bins
  • Indoor composting, vermicomposting, the Nesting 3-Bin System and the Bokashi Method
  • The art of creating an open pile without attracting unwanted creatures

Our presenters have completed UVM Extension's Master Composter Course and are experienced home composters. Bring your questions!
